Introduction

The UKIM National Competition and Awards Ceremony 2018 was held at the European Islamic Centre in Oldham on Saturday 3 November 2018.  The main event stage was chaired by Adrees Sharif (Paigham-e-Islam).  The awards ceremony was led by Sikandar Mirza (President UKIM), Mian Abdul Haq (Senior Vice President UKIM) and Muhammad Saqib (UKIM Education in Charge)

Due to the number of competitions, the events were held in four separate parts of the EIC.  A major effort was to invest in AV equipment to give everyone the best possible experience in each venue.  In total there were 355 participants excluding the arts competition.  This is an increase from the 257 who participated in 2017 and 111 participants in 2016. Over 800 were present during the day with most of the rooms struggling to cope with the number of spectators.

Competitions

Following the introduction of the group Nasheed competition for girls last year, a Naat competition was added for boys and girls.  The English speech competition topic was ‘Characteristics of Muslim Youth’.  The other competitions were for Qirat and Adhaan.

For the Arts competition children were asked to design a poster on A3 paper with the theme ‘Muslim Contribution to Britain’.  All pupils were allowed to submit one piece of artwork, this enabled all of our students to be participants in a national competition.  The prizes of trophies and art sets were awarded based on originality of design, creativity and how well the theme has been covered.
